| There are two important distinguished components in the West Flandersfeather bowling:
|
The defending game
This game makes it difficult for the attacker to play his balls to the
marker(or stake, a white dot, painted on the floor).
The defender will play his first balls as closely as possible to the stake, but preferably before and not after the stake (balls act then as catch balls).
Then he will spread out obstacles(blockers) to make the way to the stake difficult .
This is called blocking.
One has to shoot or bowl with a curve then. The defender plays 6 balls after each
other. |
The attack game
The attacker must try to score, he scores when his ball lies closer by the stake then the defenders ball.To score one calls "jouw" (say: yow).
The attacker also plays his 6 balls after each other.
Both ends of the bowling lane have pockets, these are pits to catch the balls.
If the ball arrives in the pocket she is outside game and no longer
counts.
Attackers exploit this by shooting the defenders their balls in the
pocket
|
First the captain forms the teams by throwing the dice.
He puts equivalent players against each other, so both teams have more or less the same strength.
Who guessed right (even or uneven) starts first |

|
remark: blue balls are played already, balls wil play an attacking game
1st ball red :
Light shot on left blue ball. Pass all obstacles (blockers) and play reasonable well curved, because the player can not put too much power on the ball.
It is better when the blue balls remain close to the stake(feather) so they can stop (catch) the following balls |

Top |
2nd ball red:
2 curves (sine wave), not too round with the heavy side of the ball to the right.
This for easily passing the blockers 3 en 4, and for not sinking below the first ball near stake(do not go above and so miss the ball).
Not an easy game but it's not impossible. |

|
3rd ball red:
The same way of playing as with 2nd ball.
The game near the stake is a bit easier because the 2nd ball has fallen broad(not after but to a side of the blue ball). |

Top |
4th ball red:
Again a light shot at the 3rd ball with the intention to move the defending ball(which lies before the red) backwards.
Nevertheless shoot powerful enough so that the blue ball would slide far enough. |

|
5th ball red:
Shoot blue ball away, red has already 2 winning balls (jouw)
The 3rd red is losing from the blue bal (closer to the feather or stake)l. There are several possibilities, here we choose to shoot the blue ball with a tight and hard shot.
Watch out!
Not too hard, you don't want to hit the red ball which is above. |

|
6th ball red:
To score a 4th point you could play like the 2nd and 3rd ball.
This is another way.
Bowl with 3 curves and a half (sine wave) through the blockers.
This is not very easy and it must be neatly played to have success. |
